Laser welding – fast, clean, precise
Handheld laser welding delivers clean seams with minimal distortion – considerably faster than conventional TIG. We show you the technology at our premises, advise you honestly and support you from the demonstration through to a safe set-up.
Handheld laser welding
A focused laser beam melts the material with pinpoint accuracy – high energy on a small area. This produces deep, narrow seams with low heat input.
Precise seams
Narrow, even seams with little distortion – ideal for visible stainless steel seams, thin sheet metal and delicate components.
High speed
Considerably faster than TIG – this noticeably increases throughput, especially for repetitive seams and long runs.
Minimal rework
Hardly any spatter, hardly any discolouration – grinding and re-pickling can often be almost entirely avoided. That saves time afterwards.
Laser welding: advantages and disadvantages
Honestly weighed up – so you can judge whether making the switch is worthwhile for your production.
Advantages
- Considerably faster than TIG – higher throughput
- Low heat input → hardly any distortion, even on thin sheet
- Narrow, clean seams – often without grinding
- Ideal for visible stainless steel seams and delicate parts
- Handheld operation is comparatively quick to learn
- Little spatter and discolouration
Disadvantages
- Higher purchase cost than MIG/MAG or TIG
- Class 4 laser: safety goggles, shielding and instruction are mandatory
- Tight joint preparation required – less forgiving of poor fit-up
- Only economical to a limited extent on very thick material
- Highly reflective materials (copper, aluminium) are more demanding
Class 4 laser – safe in operation
Class 4 laser radiation can damage eyes and skin – both directly and through scattered radiation. That is why protective equipment, a shielded work area and proper instruction are essential. We advise you on a safe set-up and train your team.
- Advice on safety goggles, shielding and the workstation
- Instruction for your staff on the machine
- Demonstration with your own workpieces
- Service, spare parts and wear parts from a single source
